Словените во Долна Панонија
Старите Словени ги населиле источните и јужните делови на поранешната римска провинција Панонија. Терминот Долна Панонија се користи за да се означат деловите на Панонската низина кои лежат источно и јужно од реката Раба.
Од средината на 6-ти до крајот на 8-ми век, регионот бил под владениет на Аварите, додека Словените живееле под аварска власт. Од почетокот на 9 век, после Аварските војни, државата била уништена и регионот потпаднал под франкиска власт, се до освојувањето од Унгарците (ок. 900).[1][2][3]
За време на франкискиот период, Долна Панонија била управувана од локални словенски владетели, кои биле под сузеренство на кралевите на Франките. За време на 9 век, овој регион бил претендиран и од Бугарското царство и Велик Моравија.[1][2][4]
До 10 век регионот бил освоен од Унгарците, со што Словените биле поделени на западни и јужни.
