Банши
Банши е женски дух од ирската митологија којшто носи вести за смртта на некој познаник, преку врескање.

Постојат повеќе варијанти на банши. Банши е најчесто опишана како жена која што носи сива наметка и зелен фустан, и има долга црвеникава коса, а очите ѝ се црвени од постојаното плачење.[1] Најчесто се појавува како постара жена, но може да биде и помлада.
Оплакување уреди
Во Ирска и во некои делови од Шкотска, традиција е да има жена која што испушта крици на жалост. Оваа жена во некои случаи е и професионалец.
Ирските легенди велат дека имало „песна на жалост“ која што самовила ја пее пред или откако некој ќе умре, и најчесто ја предупредува фамилијата на човекот дека тој ќе умре.[2][3] Кога неколку баншии ќе се појават, тоа е предзнак за смртта на некој голем или свет.[4] Се сметало дека банши било дух на убиена жена, или на мајка која умрела при пораѓај.[1].

[Its occurrence] is most strongly associated with the old family or ancestral home and land, even when a family member dies abroad. The cry, linked predominantly to impending death, is said to be experienced by family members, and especially by the local community, rather than the dying person. Death is considered inevitable once the cry is acknowledged.

Most manifestations of the banshee are said to occur in Ireland, usually near the home of the dying person... but some accounts refer to the announcement in Ireland of the deaths of Irish people overseas... It is those concerned with a death, at family and community levels, who usually hear the banshee, rather than the dying person.
