Историја на Ацтеките

Ацтеките се пред-колумбиски средноамерикански народ кои го населувале централно Мексико во 14 век, 15 век и 16 век. Тие самите се нарекувале Mexica (се изговара /meˈʃikaʔ/) и според нив државата Мексико и главниот град ги добиле имињата.

Главниот град на Ацтеките бил Теночтитлан кој бил изграден на остров во езерото Тешкоко. Главниот град на Мексико е изграден врз главниот град на Ацтечката Империја. Во 1521 година, Ернан Кортес и сојузничките сили ја поразиле Ацтечката Империја.
